Cosplay Contest

CosplayCosplay is a costume contest in which participants portray their selected science fiction/pop culture characters. Participants may elect to dress up as their favorite pop culture character or put their own spin on a current pop culture character.

There will be two separate cosplay contests, one contest for adults and teens and a contest for children.

12:45 - 1:15 PM in the Theater.  Ages 3-12.

Adult & Teen Cosplay Contest
1:15 - 2:15 PM in the Theater.  Ages 13+.

Contest Rules

  • Registration will be accepted until one hour prior to the start of the competition. Contestants can register online, or in person the day of the event.
  • Contestants will be judged based on their age category. Children Ages (3-K), (Grades 1-3) and (Grades 4-7th). Adult/Teen 13+. Children under 12 must have a caregiver in the audience at all times.
  • If competing as a group in the contest, groups may not exceed 5.
  • All costumes, including props and weapons, are subject to the approval of library staff at any time. We reserve the right to disallow or disqualify anyone from the contest for not following the rules and/or creating a hazardous environment for others. All cosplay contest participants should be respectful of other competitors and library staff.
  • Contestants must dress as a pop culture character from Anime, comics, movies etc. No original characters please!
  • Contestants will have up to 90 seconds on stage and should not exceed this limit.
  • No skits will be allowed during the contest due to time constraints.

Costume Rules

  • This is a family-friendly event. No nudity or the semblance of nudity is not allowed. Please ensure that all costumes are properly secured at all times and are not prone to "wardrobe malfunctions," or "indecent accidents." Costumes should be appropriate for public library atmosphere.
  • For safety reasons, please wear footwear at all times. Socks are not proper footwear. Skates, skateboards, rollerblades, and bicycles are not allowed. No Stilts.
  • Costumes should not be confused with official law enforcement, military personnel, or security staff.
  • Masks must be removable and done so at staff request.
  • Costumes or attire that may be considered obscene or offensive or endorse any form of hate or hate group are unwelcome and not allowed. No profanity, vulgar, or demeaning language will be tolerated.
  • Costumes should be no more than two feet in all directions to allow for safe traffic flow in the building.
  • Contestants must take their entire costume with them when they leave the building.
  • All costumes, including props and weapons, are subject to the approval of library staff at any time. We reserve the right to disallow or disqualify anyone from the contest for not following the rules and/or creating a hazardous environment for others. All cosplay contest participants should be respectful of other competitors and library staff.

Costume Prop Rules

  • Weapons must be obviously fake and made of lightweight materials such as plastic, foam, cardboard etc. Real weapons (including bb guns, airsoft, paintball guns, swords, knives or anything with a sharp edge) are prohibited. Metal weapons are prohibited.
  • Costume swords (including lightsabers) must be tied to your costume so that they cannot be drawn.
  • Weapons of any kind are not to be drawn or pointed at anyone. Mock fighting, horseplay, or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated, and subject you to immediate disqualification.
  • Anything with wheels, except for wheelchairs, are not allowed in the library. This includes skateboards, scooters, bicycles, etc. No Stilts.
  • Nothing flammable, explosive, or any other special effects are allowed during cosplay.
  • All costumes, including props and weapons, are subject to the approval of library staff at any time. We reserve the right to disallow or disqualify anyone from the contest for not following the rules and/or creating a hazardous environment for others. All cosplay contest participants should be respectful of other competitors and library staff.
  • The library reserves the right to tell any participant to check their prop(s) at the door; if in doubt, leave your prop at home.
